Newcastle upon Tyne – or simply ‘Newcastle’ as it is most often referred to one of Britain’s most famous cities, known for its industrial heritage, eponymous brown ale, famous nightlife and distinctive regional ‘Geordie’ dialect.

The city has undergone several transformations since it began life as a Roman fortress on Hadrian’s Wall in 122 AD.

Historically, the city’s economy has depended on its port and, particularly, it’s status as one of the world’s largest shipbuilding and repair centres. Today, the city’s economy is diverse, with significant economic outputs in science, finance, retail, education, tourism and nightlife. Newcastle is one of the United Kingdom’s capital cities and part of the Eurocities network.
